FAQs

What grades do you offer? CCS serves Kindergarten-8th grade students.

How many students are in each class? Our ideal student: teacher ratio is between 12:1 and 18:1 depending on the grade.

What is your tuition range? The tuition range is $8668.40 - $9041 based on grade.

Do you offer financial aid? CCS offers partial tuition assistance to qualified families.

Do you offer a family tuition discount? CCS does not offer a family tuition discount, but we do offer an early enrollment incentive. This is in addition to financial aid that can be applied for by any family that has applied to CCS.

What is the admissions testing process? All students applying to enter K5-8th grades will be scheduled to complete a time of evaluation. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine if a student will have the opportunity to be successful in the program. Evaluations are scheduled on an individual basis once all application fees and forms are submitted.

Is Charleston Christian affiliated with any church denomination? Charleston Christian School began as a mission of Church Creek Presbyterian in 1981. In 2018 CCS moved their campus to Grace on the Ashley and began another partnership with them. Parents do not need to be members of this church to attend. However, at least one parent must be an active member of a Christian, Bible-believing church for a student to be considered for enrollment.

How do you integrate computers and technology into the classrooms and curriculum? All students at CCS participate in age-appropriate technology classes. Here they will learn not only basic computer skills but also block coding, keyboarding, and elements of the Google Suite. We have SMARTboards in every classroom and an iPad cart for lower elementary, one for upper elementary, and one for middle school.

What curriculum enrichment classes do you offer? In addition to technology class, students will also have weekly opportunities for Library, Music, Art, Spanish, and PE.

How do you approach homework? Homework is recognized as an opportunity to practice and develop skills related to concepts being taught in the classroom. While students have time to complete assignments during the school day, there are times when more practice time is needed to help students work toward mastery. Charleston Christian parents agree to be an active part in their child's education when they enroll, so homework also provides a way for parents to participate in the process. Each student should have about 10 minutes of homework per grade. First grade should have 10 minutes, second grade should have 20 and so on.

Do you administer standardized testing? CCS students undergo MAP testing three times a year.

Do you offer any extra-curricular activities? Extra-curricular activities are offered after school and include tutoring, afterschool care, chess, and our athletic programs.

Do you offer any athletics? CCS offers volleyball, basketball, soccer and tennis.

What opportunities are there for parents to get involved at school? Parental Involvement is encouraged not only through class and grade volunteer opportunities but also through membership in the Parent Teacher Fellowship.

Do you offer breakfast and lunch? Parents have the option of providing students lunch or ordering lunch through our catering program on the Family Portal. We encourage parents to join their children for lunch whenever they wish. We do not offer breakfast, but we do provide a time for healthy snacks in the morning for students.

Do the students wear uniforms? Yes, our students wear uniforms. All CCS uniforms must be purchased from Lands' End. We also offer a wide range of gently worn uniform pieces at our uniform exchange.

Does Charleston Christian have a school library? Yes, we have a dedicated library that houses our collection of rich, time-tested literature. All students visit the library with their class once a week and may also visit and use the library as a resource when needed.

Where do most students go after 8th grade at CCS? Our students go on to attend a variety of high schools. Examples include traditional public schools, CCSD Magnet/Charter Schools, and several private schools around the Tri-County area.

What education levels and qualifications do your teachers have and what are their professional development opportunities? All teachers have Bachelor’s degrees and some teachers have Master’s degrees. Teachers have proven classroom experience and participate in ongoing in-house professional development as well as online and in-person professional development opportunities offered through ACCS, ACSI, and other educational organizations.

How do you ensure safety on campus? Our campus is always locked with a security camera at the front doors. Everyone will be buzzed in by the front office. We have two safety officers employed by the Charleston County Police Department who patrol our campus on a daily basis. We also have regular safety drills for fire, tornados, and unauthorized persons on campus.

What is your discipline policy? Our school-wide policy is reinforced by age-appropriate classroom policies in a positive Christian environment. Ordinarily, incidents of misconduct within the classroom will be handled by the teacher in charge, who will also follow up with the student as indicated.

Charleston Christian School is traditionally and historically protestant in doctrine as represented in The Westminster Standards (the Confession and the Shorter and Larger Catechism), the Three Forms of Unity (the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of the Synod of Dort), The London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689, and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. The School is led by the tenets of conservative evangelical Christianity as set forth in the Apostles’ Creed.

ARTICLE II STATEMENT OF FAITH & EDUCATIONAL TENETS

Section 2.1. Statement of Faith: The School believes and glorifies the declaration of Holy Scripture (Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Ephesians 6:4) that God has given to covenant parents the privilege and responsibility of bringing up their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, and that God has given the visible church the responsibility of spiritual oversight of all aspects of the lives of believers (Acts 20:18-21, 28-32) individually, in the family, and in the congregation. The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the infallible written rule of God and, as such, are the only rule of faith and practice. The School is traditionally and historically protestant in doctrine as represented in The Westminster Standards (the Confession and the Shorter and Larger Catechism), the Three Forms of Unity (the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of the Synod of Dort), The London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689, and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. The School is led by the tenets of conservative evangelical Christianity as set forth in the Apostles’ Creed and the following fundamental truths:

a. The Apostles’ Creed. I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

b. The Bible. The Bible is the infallible and inerrant Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him.

c. God. God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. There is but one only, the living and true God. There are three persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory.

d. Creation. It pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for the manifestation of the glory of His eternal power, wisdom, and goodness, in the beginning, to create, or make of nothing, the world, and all things therein whether visible or invisible, in the space of six days; and all very good.

e. The Sovereignty and Providence of God. The decrees of God are His eternal purpose, according to the counsel of His will, whereby, for His own glory, He has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass. God executes His decrees in the works of creation and providence. God’s works of providence are His most holy, wise, and powerful preserving and governing all His creatures, and all their actions.

f. Sin. Our first parents, being left to the freedom of their own will, fell from the estate wherein they were created, by sinning against God. Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God. Every sin deserves God’s wrath and curse, both in this life, and that which is to come As a result of sin, the earth and all creation are also in a fallen state, subject to futility and corruption, awaiting redemption.

g. Salvation and Justification. To escape the wrath and curse of God due to us for sin, God requires of us faith in Jesus Christ, repentance unto life, with the diligent use of all the outward means whereby Christ communicates to us the benefits of redemption. Faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace, whereby we receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation, as He is offered to us in the gospel. Repentance unto life is a saving grace, whereby a sinner, out of a true sense of his sin, and apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ, does, with grief and hatred of his sin, turn from it to God, with full purpose of, and endeavor after, new obedience. Justification is an act of God’s free grace, wherein He pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in His sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith in Christ alone.
